Marcy Tiberio: A Champion for Notaries and a Pillar of Professionalism

2025 Notary of the year, Marcy Tiberio with a crystal award.

In the world of Notaries, some individuals stand out not only as successful business owners but as experts and mentors willing to go above and beyond to help their colleagues succeed. Marcy Tiberio is one such individual.

Not only did she found her own thriving business, Professional Notary Services, but she also drew from her years of experience providing and marketing Notary services, volunteering as a mentor and teacher to Notaries who wanted to start their own business careers, and advocating with lawmakers to ensure state laws addressed the needs of the Notary population.

For her selfless dedication to supporting, mentoring, and guiding Notaries and fledgling business owners, encouraging them to follow the highest ethical and professional standards and working to improve laws supporting Notaries in her state, the NNA is honored to name Mary Tiberio as the 2025 Notary of the Year.

A desire to help others

Hailing from Rochester, New York, Marcy's journey to becoming a Notary was a winding path, fueled by a desire to help others. Initially, she studied psychology and Health and Human Services with the aim of working with vulnerable populations. However, a change in her career track led her to obtain a paralegal degree, opening the door to working in the world of real estate and title services — and started her on the path to becoming a professional Notary.

Marcy’s early experiences in the mortgage title field provided a strong foundation, but it was her transition to a more independent role starting and operating her own Notary business and signing service, Professional Notary Services, that truly allowed her passion to flourish.

Marcy's approach to running her business is based on exceptional customer service. When seeking out Notary Signing Agents for loan signing assignments, she looks for Notaries who are not only knowledgeable but also kind, helpful, and proactive in resolving any issues that may arise.

“There's a lot more to being a Notary Signing Agent than just the mechanics of it,” she said. Marcy prioritizes creating a positive experience for those she serves, understanding that for many signers, a home purchase or mortgage refinancing is a significant life event.

Support for New York Notaries

Beyond her work with Professional Notary Services, Marcy's passion for the Notary profession led her to establish the New York Notary Alliance (NYNA). This organization has become a vital resource for Notaries in New York, providing education, support, and advocacy on notarial issues. Marcy started NYNA because she was worried that legislators in New York were proposing bills that would affect Notaries without a full understanding of their role.

“How can they tell me that this is a good idea when they're not sure of what I do or how that would affect what I do every single day?” she said. NYNA was a way to ensure that the voices of Notaries in her state were heard.

NYNA's advocacy efforts played a crucial role in shaping remote online notarization (RON) legislation in New York. In a notable victory, they successfully advocated for the retention of journal requirements for Notaries in the face of strong opposition. “It was a true kind of David and Goliath situation,” Marcy said with pride.

Nationwide mentoring and education efforts

Outside NYNA, Marcy has also worked hard to mentor and support Notaries across the United States. She regularly contributes articles to The National Notary Bulletin with tips to help new Notaries start, maintain and grow successful Signing Agent and mobile Notary businesses. She also teaches workshops and webinars covering a wide range of topics relevant to Notaries. Whether it's loan signings, Notary law, or business development, her goal is to empower Notaries with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed.

“The most crucial role of a notary today is helping prevent fraud,” Marcy said. “In a world where identity theft and scams are becoming increasingly common, Notaries play a vital role in verifying the identity of the person signing a document and ensuring that they’re doing so of their own free will. It’s not just about stamping a form — it’s about protecting people, their rights, and their peace of mind. Notaries provide that extra layer of trust, helping to keep things honest and giving everyone involved more confidence in the process.”

Marcy Tiberio's journey is a testament to the power of perseverance, dedication, and a genuine desire to serve others. Her commitment to professionalism, advocacy, and education has made a lasting impact on the Notary community.
