Background:

Under many state laws, Notaries who perform in-person electronic notarizations (IPENs) and remote online notarizations (RONs) are required to digitally sign these notarial acts with a digital certificate. When used correctly, a digital signature confirms you performed the notarization and can also verify if any changes were made to the electronic document after you signed it.

Digital signatures offer unparalleled security, but what you may not know is that so-called “quantum computing” poses a real threat to the security of digital signatures and digitally signed notarial acts.

On Tuesday, February 11, the American Bar Association’s Science and Technology Section will host a 1-hour webinar about the impact quantum computing will have on the reliability of digital signatures. The session will cover what quantum computing is, the danger it poses to digitally signed documents, why it’s important for Notaries like you to be informed about these issues, and how you can ensure your clients’ electronic documents remain safe and secure.

The ABA has generously made the webinar free of charge to Notaries with the option to view it later on demand. Use coupon code SCITECHNNA when you register. If you are an attorney, you may be able to receive continuing legal education credit for attending the live webinar.
