Can I accept a signer ID with an out-of-state address?

I was asked to notarize for an individual who recently moved to Texas. The documents reference his Texas address; however, his IDs list his old Chicago address. Can I notarize the documents even though he does not have a Texas ID?A. R., Texas

The address listed on an identification document is not a factor that would determine if the identification is acceptable for Notarization or not.  In Texas, a Notary may accept a driver’s license from any U.S. state, provided it is current and contains the photograph and signature of the individual (CPRC 121.005(a).

For more information, please see our recommended guidelines for when to accept or reject a signer's identification.

Hotline answers are based on the laws in the state where the question originated and may not reflect the laws of other states. If in doubt, always refer to your own state statutes. – The Editors
