I recently was asked to notarize a deed of trust for a client. The title company requested a copy of my commission certificate. Is it common for title companies to request these items and is it required to show them? Any guidance or suggestions is much appreciated. — M.D., Oregon
Contracting companies for which you provide notarial services may want to confirm that you are a Notary Public. While it is not required for you to provide a copy of your Notary commission, the company may decide not to do business with you if you don’t. The Secretary of State maintains an online database of all Oregon Notaries Public on its website, so your commission information is public information anyway.
