How Do I Record An Undated Document In My Notary Journal?

If the document being notarized does not have a date, should I enter the date the notarization took  place be in my journal entry instead, or should the date be left blank in the journal entry?A.S., Texas

You should not leave the entry space for the document date blank in your journal because Texas law requires the date of the document to be recorded in your journal. In this case, your best course of action is to write “No Date” in your journal.

Hotline answers are based on the laws in the state where the question originated and may not reflect the laws of other states. If in doubt, always refer to your own state statutes. – The Editors

Hello. Each state has its own rules regarding Notary journals, and some do not require a journal. If you can tell us what state you have questions about, we'll be happy to provide you with more specific information for that state.

A date on a document is not required in order to notarize a signature. A date is required within the acknowledgment or jurat wording in any notarization.
