NNA CEO Takes Ice Bucket Challenge To Help Fight ALS Disease

NNA CEO Tom Heymann stepped up today to take the Ice Bucket Challenge — a viral sensation on social media that's helped raise millions of dollars to fight ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease.

In the challenge, participants — which have included Bill Gates, singer/actor Justin Timberlake, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and New Jersey Governor Chris Christie — film a video pledging to pour a bucket of ice water over their heads or donate to support ALS research, and challenge others to do the same within 24 hours. The challenge has gained nationwide popularity. According to the ALS Association, an astonishing $4 million in donations has been received in the past two weeks compared to $1.12 million during the same time period last year.

Heymann took up the challenge in honor of Steve Nardini, a friend who passed away in 2003 after a five-year battle with ALS.
