I am a Florida Notary and I am interested in performing wedding ceremonies both within Florida and in other states that permit Notaries to do so. Is this possible? – C.K., Florida
You may perform any of your notarial duties, including officiating wedding ceremonies, within your state boundaries; however, as a Florida Notary, you cannot travel to another state to perform a marriage ceremony. The ceremony must take place within the state of Florida.
You cannot obtain a Notary commission in the two other states that currently allow Notaries to perform marriages. Maine requires non-resident applicants to reside in an adjacent state and carry on a trade or business in the state. South Carolina does not issue commissions to nonresidents.
