In this Advisor Spotlight we introduce you to privacy expert Thomas J. Smedinghoff.
Thomas J. Smedinghoff is a partner in the Privacy, Data Security, and Information Law Practice at the law firm of Wildman Harrold in Chicago. His practice focuses on the developing field of information law and electronic business activities, with an emphasis on electronic transactions, identity management, data security, privacy, and corporate information governance issues.
Mr. Smedinghoff has been actively involved in developing eBusiness, eSignature, data security and information legal policy around the world, and is an active participant in the NNA’s International Forums which focus on secure electronic document exchanges between nations. He currently serves as co-chair of the Identity Management Legal Task Force of the American Bar Association (ABA) Section of Business Law, and chair of the International Policy Committee of the ABA Section of Science & Technology Law.
He is also the author of the book “Information Security Law: The Emerging Standard for Corporate Compliance” (IT Governance Publishing, 2008) and numerous other books and articles on electronic transactions, privacy, and data security.
