Last year oversight over Notaries Public was transferred from the Secretary of State to the Department of Financial Institutions, but the statute authorizing the Governor to issue Notary commissions was unchanged. Senate Bill 390 now transfers the authority for issuing commissions from the Governor to the Secretary of Financial Institutions.
