Changes
- Provides that to allow individuals and businesses licensed by the Department of State to extend the expiration date of their licenses, the Executive Order extends the time to renew a Notary license under Executive Law Sections 130 and 131 to the 30th day following the expiration of the Order.
AnalysisWe are starting to see state governors temporarily extend license renewals with the state as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. These renewals apply to Notaries Public, who now more than ever, are needed to provide their official witnessing services to the public. Executive Order 202.11 extends the renewal period for Notary commissions under Executive Law Sections 130 and 131 to the 30th day following the expiration of the Order.
However, the Order also expresses its purpose which is to "allow individuals and businesses licensed by the Department of State to extend the expiration date of their license." So, the Order has the practical effect of actually extending the expiration date of any Notary commission from March 27, 2020, through the 30th day following the expiration of the order (the Order expires on April 26, 2020; the 30th day after that is May 26, 2020). For each continuing order extending a prior order noted below, the expiration date of an expired commission is the 30th day following the expiration of the order.
