In Virginia, Notaries can take acknowledgments and proofs, administer oaths and affirmations, certify true copies of any document other than a document in the custody of a court, certify affidavits and depositions, perform verifications of fact, and witness the opening of safe deposit boxes.

They’re also authorized to conduct traditional, in-person electronic notarization and remote online notarization.
