What to know when applying to become a Louisiana Notary Public

  • Your Notary commission is for life. A Louisiana Notary commission is unique in many ways. As a civil law Notary, you can draft, prepare, and execute some legal documents without being an attorney. Plus, your commission lasts a lifetime!
  • The application process takes time. In addition to filing an Application to Qualify, you must also take the Notary Exam Pre-Assessment and then pass the state Notary exam. The exam is administered by the Secretary of State twice a year.
