Your Illinois Notary Application Process
As of August 1st, 2024, the Illinois Secretary of State has a new online application. To submit your application online, you’ll need to provide a Notary bond and proof of completion of a state-approved course.
As of January 1, 2025, certain renewal applicants are exempt from the Notary training course and exam requirements. If you are exempt, you need to fill out and submit this exemption form with your application.
If you are a non-resident from a qualifying bordering state with a place of business in Illinois, or if you have a hardship that prevents you from applying online, you’ll need to complete a PDF application and mail it to the Secretary of State’s office.
