What to know when renewing your Michigan Notary commission

  • Renew early. To avoid a lapse in your commission, it is recommended that you complete your renewal application process 60 days before your current commission expires.
  • Submit your application online. Mailed applications can take up to six weeks to be processed, while online submissions are often prioritized and processed the same day. Once approved, the Michigan Department of State will issue you your commission.
  • A Notary bond is required. Our renewal packages include your $10,000 Notary bond, which covers your six-year term.
  • No training or exam required. Michigan does not require renewing Notaries to take training or pass an exam.
