Know this before applying to become an Indiana Notary Public

  • Be sure you qualify. You have to be 18 or older, a U.S. citizen or legal resident, legally residing or employed in Indiana, possess an acceptable form of ID, not serving in federal or state government, and have no criminal conviction with a sentence exceeding six months in prison.
  • Your commission lasts 8 years. Throughout your commission term, the Indiana Secretary of State requires you to complete continuing education every two years.
