What to know before you become a Notary Public in Alaska

  • Make sure you’re eligible. You must be 18 or older, a legal U.S. resident, and a resident of Alaska for at least 30 days with the intent to remain indefinitely. You must also have had no felony convictions and no commission revocations in the past 10 years.
  • No training or exam is required. Alaska does not require new Notaries to complete a training course or exam.
  • Commissions can take up to 4 weeks to be issued. After submitting your Notary application, allow up to four weeks to receive your commission.
  • An Alaska Notary commission term is 4 years. You are appointed by the Notary Office of the Office of Lieutenant Governor in Juneau, Alaska, not by the National Notary Association.
