The Arizona Governor has issued executive orders extending the validity of driver's licenses during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Affects

Affects the validity of driver licenses that Arizona Notaries may accept for notarizations.

Changes
  1. Requires under Executive Order 20-8 that law enforcement, state government agencies, and county and municipal governments to accept as identification an Arizona Driver License that expires between March 1, 2020, and September 1, 2020, for 6 months beyond the expiration date.
  2. Provides under Executive Order 20-8 that the executive order terminates after the termination of the Govern's Declaration of Public Health Emergency issued on March 11, 2020.
  3. Provides that renewals for Class D (operator) and M (motorcycle) licenses that have an expiration date between March 1, 2020, and February 28, 2021, will be deferred under Executive Order 20-61 by six months from the expiration date.
  4. Provides that under Executive Order 20-61 the Arizona Department of Transportation will continue to defer requirements to renew all other classes of driver's licenses that have an expiration date between March 1, 2020, and February 28, 2021, by six months from the expiration date.
Analysis

As a response to the novel coronavirus pandemic, Arizona Governor Ducey signed an executive order calling on law enforcement, and state and local governments to accept as identification an Arizona driver license with an expiration date between March 1, 2020, and September 1, 2020, for 6 months beyond the expiration date. The NNA confirmed with the Arizona Secretary of State's that Arizona Notaries should comply with this executive order and accept an Arizona driver license that expires between March 1, 2020, and September 1, 2020, for 6 months beyond the expiration date as well. The executive order terminates after the termination of the Govern's Declaration of Public Health Emergency issued on Marcy 11, 2020.

On December 30, 2020, Governor Ducey signed Executive Order 20-61 that extends driver's licenses further.
