Hotline Tip: How Can I Better Protect My Signers' Privacy?

I use a journal to record all of my notarial acts, and I Privacy Guard always have my borrowers sign next to their entry. I tried using a piece of paper to cover prior entries, but I’m still worried that signers might be able to see, and maybe even memorize, the private information of previous signers. How can I better protect this private information? - J.A., Warrenton, VA

It is a Notary’s responsibilities to protect the private information of their signers. In order to do so, the NNA recommends using the Notary Privacy Guard, which is now offered through the NNA website. The easy-to-use guard is specially designed to cover previous journal entries, thereby hiding the private information of other signers.
