Hotline Tip: Recording Signer ID In Notary Journals

NNA Hotline Tips For NotariesAs a Florida Notary, am I required to record a signer’s driver’s license number in my notarial journal? - M.R., Plantation, FL

There are currently no journal requirements in Florida; however, the NNA and the Executive Office of the Governor does recommend it as a best practice for Florida Notaries. The Governor’s Reference Manual for Notaries Public recommends that for written identification the Notary record the serial number of the identification in the journal.

Hotline answers are based on the laws in the state where the question originated and may not reflect the laws of other states. If in doubt, always refer to your own state statutes. –The Editors
