COLORADO Carol Salter didnt hesitate when Mike Shea of the Colorado Secretary of States office contacted her to get input on the states Notary law, which was due to expire in July 2009.
Salter, a Longmont resident and the NNAs 2005 Notary of the Year, has long been an advocate along with the NNA of a recordkeeping requirement for all notarial acts as well as mandatory Notary education.
I am passionate about the Notary profession and excellence in notarial practice, Salter said. So much so that she testified before committees of the state Senate and House of Representatives. She also sent letters to each committee member laying out her position on recordkeeping and education. Needless to say, she was thrilled when the bill passed and was signed into law by Governor Bill Ritter.
Senate Bill 111, which went into effect on July 1, 2009, renewed Colorados Notary Public Act with important new provisions. These include an expanded Notary recordkeeping requirement and authorization for the Secretary of State to develop rules requiring Notaries to take a training program.
