Hotline Tip: What If There's No Room For My Seal?

If a document with preprinted jurat wording doesn’t have enough space for my Notary seal, may I attach a loose jurat certificate to the document? If so, should I write “See attached jurat certificate” with my initials in the preprinted jurat certificate section on the original document? – M.K., Cypress, California

In California, if notarial wording printed on a document leaves no room for a seal, a loose certificate can be attached and filled out instead. Writing “see attached certificate” is good practice to alert agencies that a certificate was attached, in case someone attempts to remove the loose notarial certificate from the document.
